Blackthorn: Award Winning Salt

At the Scottish Retail Food and Drink Awards 2022 we were overwhelmed with category GOLD and top award PLATINUM for Scottish Small Producer (ambient) at the Scottish Retail Food & Drink Awards.

As you can tell from our faces, we are simply overjoyed, astonished and delighted. What amazing and exciting times to be in amongst such a wonderful group, not least the Braw Liquor Club with whom we shared nerves and laughter, Mossgiel Organic Farm, The Buffalo Farm and many more. Thank you to Scottish Retail Food and Drink Awards and the wonderful Cara for hosting such a lovely event and @dougievipond for his fantastic enthusiasm. Huge Congratulations to all winners and finalists.

We are incredibly proud to announce we were awarded 2 stars from the Great Taste. We’d like to congratulate all the Great Tastes out there, so much hard work and hope go in. ⭐️⭐️A beautiful looking salt with lots of different shaped crystals which crumble well within the fingers. They glisten in the light. It's a fabulously saline salt with a fresh clean taste and some great minerality - it also has a sweetness on the finish. Delicious.

⭐️⭐️ Gorgeous-sized flakes with an appealing glisten. Decent crunch with a delicate saltiness and subtle mineral notes.

⭐️⭐️Great crunch with a pretty glisten that shines invitingly - its intensity is tantalising, with rushes of minerality, which float off in the palate leaving a clean and fresh mouthfeel. The salt is complex.

⭐️⭐️Wonderful big white flakes of salt. The flavour is pure, simple, and clean with salt notes coming to the fore but with the minerals adding a further dimension to this natural product.

Gold Winner Blackthorn…
In April we also attended the @farmshop_deli Show in Birmingham where Blackthorn won gold in the category for condiments and sauces! It was a fab show, great to see and talk to everyone, our baby working tower came too to show how we make Blackthorn. Thank you so much to all who came and were interested and to the organisers for putting on a brilliant event after all this time. Thank you!

P.S. yes, that is watermelon for tasting with Blackthorn- it’s incredible…
